Eligibility of Volunteering
To volunteer for the the Foster Grandparent or Senior Companion programs, you must be:
• 55 years old or older;
• able to pass a background check;
• in reasonably good health; and
• a caring person, with time and energy to spare.
Income qualified volunteers are eligible to receive a tax-free stipend of up to $2.65 per hour. This money is NOT taxable and does NOT affect your eligibility for other entitlement programs, such as SSI, food stamps, housing, Medicaid, etc.
Volunteers in the Bill Payer and Volunteer Caregiver programs are adults, aged 21 and older, who are willing to share their time and friendship with homebound elders. These volunteers serve at times mutually agreeable to themselves and their clients. All volunteers must undergo a background check, receive training and be bonded. Everyone with a caring heart and a few hours per month to share is encouraged to participate.
